The Department Port and Shipping Management, School of Economics and Political Sciences, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), continues to achieve international recognition, with distinguished members of its academic staff consistently included among the world’s top 2% most influential scientists in their respective fields.
According to the annual study by the renowned US-based Stanford University, “2026 World’s Top 2% Best Scientists List of Stanford University and Elsevier”, Professor Theodoros Syriopoulos, Chair of the Department of Port and Shipping Management at NKUA, has been ranked among the world’s top 2% most influential scientists for the fourth consecutive year. His significant research contributions focus on Shipping Management and Finance, within the broader fields of Logistics and Transportation.
Furthermore, Professor Panagiotis Trakadas, a faculty member of the Department of Port and Shipping Management whose field of expertise is Computer and Communications Technology and Systems, has also been included again in this year’s list of the world’s top 2% most influential scientists in his field. His research focuses on technological innovation and applications across the broader sectors of shipping, ports and transportation.
This international recognition is based on an analysis of scientific indicators, including citation counts, the h-index and the c-score, which combines the quality and quantity of scientific publications with the influence of researchers and their work. These indicators cover 20 scientific fields and 174 subfields, while the data reflects the scientists’ entire academic careers up to the end of 2025.
It is particularly noteworthy that these outstanding scientific distinctions are the result of collaboration within a diverse, multidisciplinary, inter-institutional and global network of scientists, including fellow professors, researchers, collaborators, students and others. Working both within and beyond the Department of Port and Shipping Management, these colleagues contribute to scientific research and academic publications, participate jointly in international applied research projects and conferences, and organize international scientific initiatives.
The Department of Port and Shipping Management of NKUA publicly acknowledges and warmly congratulates all its valued collaborators for their contribution to this outstanding collective achievement and prestigious international distinction.

Σύμφωνα με την ετήσια έρευνα του καταξιωμένου Πανεπιστημίου Stanford των ΗΠΑ ‘2026 World’s Top 2% Best Scientists List of Stanford University and Elsevier’, ο Καθηγητής Θεόδωρος Συριόπουλος, Πρόεδρος του Τμήματος Διαχείρισης Λιμένων και Ναυτιλίας του ΕΚΠΑ, κατατάσσεται, για τέταρτη συνεχή χρονιά, ανάμεσα στο 2% των πιο επιδραστικών επιστημόνων, με σημαντικό ερευνητικό έργο στους τομείς της διοίκησης ναυτιλιακών επιχειρήσεων/χρηματοοικονομικής (Shipping Management / Finance), στον ευρύτερο τομέα της εφοδιαστικής αλυσίδας και μεταφορών (Logistics and Transportation).
